Heavy layers for sound insulation
Heavy layers for vibration dampening and sound deadening
Heavy layer sheeting is indispensable in cars and other vehicles. Given the fact that vehicle manufacturers use ever thinner sheet metal and that certain mechanical designs can lead to vibration, heavy layer sheeting is the best solution for reducing the transmission of sound. Our soni EVA heavy layer is very flexible and perfectly adapts to the contours of areas such as the vehicle’s floor pan underneath the carpet. Heating the heavy layer with a hair dryer makes fitting even easier and further improves the results.
Using a commercially available spray adhesive, the material can be easily glued on the substrate. For vertical or overhead applications, however, we recommend additional mechanical fixing.
Of course, the material can be combined with our foam and polyester non-woven products, so that on top of the sound insulation effect (the transmission of noise is blocked), a sound attenuation effect (noise is absorbed) is achieved.

For vibration damping and sound deadening we recommend our soni HEAVY ALU, a bitumen heavy layer specially designed as sound-insulation and anti-drumming material for sheet metal. Bitumen is generally the material of choice for this purpose, as shown by the recommendations in the literature as well as by practical experience. In our material, the application of an aluminum foil (resulting in a "constrained lining", as the experts say) further improves the already high loss factor of the bitumen layer, so that an overall loss factor of about 0.25 can be achieved.
Did you know? With sound deadening, the principle of "more is better" is not necessarily true. Cut-to-size pieces of heavy layer glued to the most suitable places often achieve better effects than covering the entire surface with the sheeting.

Both materials can be cut with a carpet knife.
