Sound absorption materials

Spaces where many people meet, such as offices, kindergarten facilities, schools or conference rooms, tend to be subject to ever higher noise levels. Often this is due to their modern architectural design with its preference for smooth, hard floor, wall and ceiling surfaces, which reflect most of the sound. This results in high noise levels and low speech intelligibility, in short: a very fatiguing environment that interferes with concentration and performance.
For an effective reduction of the noise level, we recommend the installation of sound absorbers on the ceiling and the upper section of the walls. We offer a range of high-quality products that meet a wide variety of design and stability requirements. In general, covering only part of the ceiling/walls (corresponding to ca. 30 to 50% of the room’s floor surface) is sufficient, depending on room height and initial noise level. This simple measure will substantially reduce the reverberation time and hence the noise level, resulting in much better speech intelligibility and a more comfortable atmosphere.
Sound absorption materials “swallow” the noise, i.e. they transform the incident sound energy into other forms of energy such as heat or oscillation.
Examples for very effective noise absorbers are open-cell acoustic foams, closed-cell foams with a distinctive cell structure, or the fibers of special non-woven materials.
For some materials, special surface treatments (structuring, embossing, extra layer) can further enhance the noise absorption capacity.
The installation of absorbers on walls and/or ceilings reduces overall sound reflection, shortens the reverberation time and improves the acoustic properties of the room.
Sound absorbers are also suitable for technical applications, e.g. in noise-control enclosures or housings.
