Anti-drumming heavy layers for metal sheets and metal parts

Heavy layers (or sound-deadening layers) are an excellent solution when it comes to insulating and attenuating the noise emitted by metal sheets or metal parts. They effectively minimize vibration, preventing the metal parts from drumming or booming. Other typical uses are interior linings in vehicles and sound-proofing enclosures or as part of noise-control covers. Its low thickness makes the heavy layer a perfect solution for applications where only little space is available.

You have the choice between our bitumen-based heavy layers soni HEAVY and soni HEAVY ALU, and our synthetic heavy layer soni EVA.

soni EVA
Rear face: not self-adhesive (nk) | Thickness: 1.5 mm
soni EVA – Elastic heavy layer for sound and vibration insulation soni EVA is a soft, elastic heavy layer based on EPDM/EVA polymers with an admixture of flame-retardant minerals. It is ideal for technical applications, vehicle construction and mechanical engineering, where vibrations, rumbling and sound transmission need to be reduced. High-quality properties of soni EVA ✔ Vibration damping: Reduces the rumbling and vibration of metal and sheet metal structures. ✔ Sound insulation: Prevents the transmission of noise and ensures a quieter environment. ✔ Mechanical & self-adhesive: The self-adhesive backing serves as an installation aid, especially for horizontal surface mounting. For vertical or overhead mounting,     additional mechanical fastening is recommended. Areas of application for soni EVA soni EVA is a proven material for: ✔ Vehicles: doors, bonnets, boot, interior trim. ✔ Mechanical engineering: covers, metal structures, vibration protection plates. ✔ Technical applications: sound insulation in workshops, industrial plants, metal structures.

soni HEAVY
Thickness: 1.8 mm
soni HEAVY – Highly effective heavy bitumen layer for sound and vibration insulation soni HEAVY is an elastomer-modified heavy bitumen layer laminated with a transparent polyester film. This combination ensures a particularly robust, durable and sound-insulating surface – ideal for applications in vehicle construction, mechanical engineering and technical insulation. Thanks to its high density and material flexibility, soni HEAVY offers excellent sound insulation and effective vibration damping. It prevents metal surfaces from vibrating, booming and rattling, thereby specifically reducing sources of noise. Advantages of soni HEAVY at a glance ✔ Effective sound insulation & vibration damping → reduces both structure-borne and airborne noise ✔ High material density for maximum sound reduction ✔ Self-adhesive backing for easy installation ✔ Mechanically resilient & durable ✔ Can be combined with acoustic materials such as soni COMPOSITE or soni 491 STL ✔ Suitable for technical applications, vehicles and machinery Typical areas of application for soni HEAVY ✔ Vehicle construction: engine compartment insulation, door panels, floor panels ✔ Mechanical engineering: sound insulation for housings, bonnets, covers ✔ Enclosures & panelling: soundproofing of sheet metal and partition walls ✔ Building services engineering: insulation of heating systems, roller shutter boxes, ventilation ducts ✔ Combination with acoustic absorbers: for optimised sound insulation solutions Installation instructions for soni HEAVY The self-adhesive backing makes it easy to apply to smooth, clean and grease-free surfaces. However, for vertical or overhead installation, additional mechanical fastening (e.g. with pressure strips or screws) is required to ensure permanent secure adhesion.

soni HEAVY ALU
soni HEAVY ALU is a sound-deadening layer made from elastomer-modified bitumen with an aluminum surface. The heat-reflecting effect of the aluminum layer provides soni HEAVY ALU with a good fire safety classification. Our soni HEAVY ALU anti-drumming layer is predominantly used for technical applications as well as in vehicle and machine construction. Applied to a metal structure, soni HEAVY ALU will effectively reduce the sound level and prevent the transmission of noise and vibration. As a sound-deadening layer, soni HEAVY ALU delivers the double effect of air-borne noise insulation and solid-borne noise attenuation.   The self-adhesive rear face serves primarily as an installation aid. In the case of installation on a vertical surface or on a ceiling, additional mechanical fixation is required.

Heavy layers / sound-deadening layers

Heavy layers are highly suitable for insulating and attenuating the noise emitted by metal sheets and metal parts, since they effectively minimize vibration and thus prevent metal parts from drumming or booming. Heavy layers are also used as interior linings in vehicles or noise-insulation enclosures or for sound-proofing doors, windows, roller shutter casings or stairs. Thanks to their low thickness, heavy layers are a perfect solution for applications where only little space is available.

Heavy / sound-deadening layers provide the double effect of air-borne noise insulation and solid-borne noise attenuation.

soni EVA 3-01 is also used in composite products such as soni COMPOSITE, where it is combined with a PUR-ether acoustic foam laminated with a black non-woven surface layer. This ideal combination ensures a twofold noise-control effect: sound absorption plus sound insulation – for especially high overall effectiveness.

Installation

On request, nearly all our products can be delivered with self-adhesive rear faces, enabling easy, clean and time-saving installation – perfect for retrofit applications in rooms that are already in use.

Noise control

Thanks to their open-cell structure, our noise protection materials absorb sound waves and effectively attenuate bothering noise. A satisfactory result can already be achieved by lining 30 to 50 % of the ceiling and wall surfaces.

Fire protection

Many of our noise-control products are classified as flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 or DIN EN 13501. Please contact your local authorities in advance for information about the required fire protection class.
