Fire safety: flame-retardant sound absorbers
What are the key issues in regard to fire safety?
In the case of fire, people and buildings need to be optimally protected. In order to ensure this protection, building materials must generally meet defined fire safety requirements, especially in public buildings.
Building materials are categorized in different classes depending on their burning behavior, as defined in the German DIN 4102 standard. The European equivalent of this standard is DIN EN 13501, which also describes fire side effects such as smoke production or flaming droplets.
Building material class “flame retardant”:
This class includes materials that have passed the B1 test according to DIN 4102 and are rated as flame retardant or self-extinguishing. Our products are tested and classified under DIN EN 13501-1 and rated “flame retardant” in compliance with the requirements of the building inspection authorities and the construction products list of the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt). This classification confirms that our materials are suitable for use in buildings.
Please note: Only the products without self-adhesive equipment meet the requirements for B1 classification.
As a general rule, for all cases where no fire safety regulations have to be observed, it is up to you to decide which material to use. But even where the risk of a fire seems to be rather low, it may be advisable to consider the different aspects of fire safety before installing any potentially flammable materials and, in the case of doubt, seek the advice of the local fire brigade or fire protection authority.
Summary
Our soundproofing panels without self-adhesive backing fulfill the B1 classification conditions. Even though they are not self-adhesive, they are very easy to install on the desired surface and can be quickly and easily adjusted in shape and size. The soundproofing panels therefore not only offer you excellent noise-control efficiency, they are also very versatile and can be used in a variety of ways. In our product range you will find a large selection of different soundproofing panels, which score in terms of fire safety in addition and, depending on the product, can be used both indoors and outdoors.Do you have questions about fire safety in connection with our products?

Installation
On request, nearly all our products can be delivered with self-adhesive rear faces, enabling easy, clean and time-saving installation – perfect for retrofit applications in rooms that are already in use.
Noise control
Thanks to their open-cell structure, our noise protection materials absorb sound waves and effectively attenuate bothering noise. A satisfactory result can already be achieved by lining 30 to 50 % of the ceiling and wall surfaces.
Fire protection
Many of our noise-control products are classified as flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 or DIN EN 13501. Please contact your local authorities in advance for information about the required fire protection class.
