soni HEAVY – Highly effective heavy bitumen layer for sound and vibration insulation

soni HEAVY is an elastomer-modified heavy bitumen layer laminated with a transparent polyester film. This combination ensures a particularly robust, durable and sound-insulating surface – ideal for applications in vehicle construction, mechanical engineering and technical insulation.

Thanks to its high density and material flexibility, soni HEAVY offers excellent sound insulation and effective vibration damping. It prevents metal surfaces from vibrating, booming and rattling, thereby specifically reducing sources of noise.

Installation instructions for soni HEAVY

The self-adhesive backing makes it easy to apply to smooth, clean and grease-free surfaces. However, for vertical or overhead installation, additional mechanical fastening (e.g. with pressure strips or screws) is required to ensure permanent secure adhesion.

What is heavy bitumen layer?

Heavy bitumen layer such as soni HEAVY is a flexible, heavy insulation mat that effectively dampens vibrations and structure-borne noise thanks to its high dead weight and structure. It is often applied to metal or plastic surfaces to prevent annoying booming or rattling noises.


What is soni HEAVY used for?

soni HEAVY is used wherever components vibrate or generate noise – e.g. in vehicles, machines, covers or housings. The heavy foil ensures that noise sources are effectively isolated and resonances are minimised.


What is the difference between soni HEAVY and soni EVA?

Both products are heavy-duty foils, but differ in their material base:
✔ soni HEAVY: based on bitumen – particularly dense and highly insulating, ideal for sheet metal and machines.
✔ soni EVA: consists of elastic EPDM/EVA polymer – lighter, more flexible, more temperature-resistant.


How do I attach soni HEAVY correctly?

The heavy foil has a self-adhesive backing, which makes installation easy. For overhead or vertical installation, it should also be mechanically fixed (e.g. with strips, screws or pressure plates) to prevent it from coming loose.


Can I cut soni HEAVY to size myself?

Yes – soni HEAVY can be cut to the desired size with a craft knife.


What is heavy foil generally used for?

Heavy foil is used to reduce structure-borne noise and vibrations in building components. It is one of the most effective methods of passive noise insulation, as it absorbs vibrations before they can propagate as sound.


Can soni HEAVY be combined with other acoustic products?

Yes – in combination with acoustic absorbers such as soni COMPOSITE or soni 491 STL, a two- or multi-layer sound insulation system is created that greatly reduces both airborne and structure-borne noise.
