The right soundproofing solutions for your music room
Ideal acoustic conditions and effective sound insulation for your music room not only create a better sound experience, but also protect neighbors, residents and family members from unwelcome noise. For rehearsals and recordings, (amateur) musicians like you need high-performing sound insulation in the music room so that they can give free rein to their creativity.
Good sound insulation has a double benefit: Your music performance can be recorded in high quality without disturbing background noises - and neighbors or other third parties won't be disturbed by an unwanted listening experience while you're developing new songs or working away on the piano keys. In an insulated rehearsal room, making music feels much more relaxed and unhampered by external considerations. But what is the best way to insulate your music room? soniflex has useful advice for you. We show you how to optimally sound-condition your music room. Our most popular products for this use case
The challenge: Soundproofing a music room
Soundproofing a music room poses special challenges. On the one hand, the acoustic conditions in the room must be optimized to ensure a flawless sound experience. On the other hand, sound transmission to and from adjacent spaces must be prevented as much as possible. These two aspects require different approaches. For this reason, you need high-performance materials for both sound insulation and sound absorption. "Sound absorption" is a means for enhancing the acoustic conditions in a given room by absorbing (part of the) sound waves, thereby reducing lingering (reverberating) sounds and echoes. This will improve the clarity and quality of the sound events within the room. Sound-insulation measures, on the other hand, aim to prevent the transmission of sound waves through walls, floors and ceilings in order to prevent noise pollution in adjacent spaces.
The sound-conditioning measures in a music room must provide both: good sound absorption as well as excellent sound insulation. This involves not only to doors and windows, but also walls, floors and ceilings. For perfect soundproofing, we recommend a so-called room-in-room solution, i.e. walls and ceiling and possibly also the floor are covered with an insulating shell construction. If, in your case, this measure is too time-consuming or would take up too much space, you can alternatively clad the wall directly with sound-insulating soni COMPOSITE panels. soni COMPOSITE consists of a synthetic heavy layer (3kg/m²) and a polyurethane-ether acoustic foam, laminated with a nonwoven. The heavy layer increases the mass (the higher the mass, the higher the sound insulation effect). The foam serves as sound attenuation layer, i.e. it absorbs sound waves.
Processing: soni COMPOSITE has a self-adhesive rear face, which makes installation on smooth surfaces very easy. Yet, due to the high weight of the panels, they should be mechanically fixed in addition. For a wall design in line with your personal style (wallpaper/ plaster and paint), we recommend covering the acoustic material with plasterboard.
Especially in densely populated residential areas or apartment buildings, it is essential to take measures that will minimize noise exposure for other household members and neighbors. This can be achieved through a combination of architectural measures and the installation of special acoustic materials. Products from soniflex are ideally suited to providing optimum sound insulation and acoustic optimization in any room - including music rooms.

Installation
On request, nearly all our products can be delivered with self-adhesive rear faces, enabling easy, clean and time-saving installation – perfect for retrofit applications in rooms that are already in use.
Noise control
Thanks to their open-cell structure, our noise protection materials absorb sound waves and effectively attenuate bothering noise. A satisfactory result can already be achieved by lining 30 to 50 % of the ceiling and wall surfaces.
Fire protection
Many of our noise-control products are classified as flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 or DIN EN 13501. Please contact your local authorities in advance for information about the required fire protection class.

Soundproofing a music room for better sound quality
Rooms with smooth walls and high ceilings often show an annoying reverberation effect. Reverberation can be efficiently reduced with the strategic installation of acoustic foam elements. Foam panels with pyramid-shaped or napped surfaces are ideal for absorbing unwanted frequencies and improving the acoustics in the room. The acoustic conditions can be further optimized by installing broadband absorbers as well as bass absorbers (for low frequencies). We recommend covering around 20-30% of the wall and ceiling surfaces with sound absorbers. Materials with a thickness of at least 60 millimeters are particularly useful in this context.
Acoustic foams such as pyramid foam, triangular profiles and napped foam have a porous structure that effectively absorbs sound waves in high density. These materials are highly suitable for the acoustic optimization of a room since they dampen interfering frequencies and provide for a purer sound.
The combination of bass absorbers and broadband absorbers can contribute to the efficient control of both low and high frequencies. They are perfect also for retrofit soundproofing measures and make it easy to reduce the reverberation in the room for the long run and in a visually appealing way.
