Porosity

Porosity is the ratio the air volume that the sound waves can penetrate in relation to the overall volume of the porous material. The porosity value has no dimension and reflects the absorption effectiveness of acoustic materials.

Point source

A point source is a sound source where the sound waves start from a single point (or a source defined as such).

Pure tone

A pure tone is a sound that consists of a single sine wave. As pure tones hardly ever occur naturally, people tend to perceive them as unpleasant.
