soni 491 STL
Our soni 491/STL noise-control panel is a highly effective sound-insulation product based on PUR foam, equipped with a micro-perforated surface film and additionally with a heavy layer. This clever combination of two different acoustic materials ensures both sound-insulating and sound-absorbing properties in one product. soni 491 STL is suitable, for example, for boosting the sound insulation effectivity of a wall, partition wall or ceiling. Advice on building a curtain wall: For a curtain wall, dowel wooden laths of 30 or 50 mm thickness to the wall. Ideally, an elastic layer is placed between the wall and the laths to prevent sound bridges. Our soni NBR sealing tape is the ideal solution for such an elastic mounting. Then insert our sound-absorber product soni 491 STL in the empty spaces between the laths and cover them with plaster boards or particle boards screwed to the laths. To optimize the curtain wall you can "decouple" the plaster board / particle board from the floor and ceiling as well as the adjacent walls by filling the edge joints with acrylic. For an example of a curtain wall construction for noise insulation purposes, please see the testimonial "Neighbors / Curtain Walling”.  If you do not have the tools and/or the time to cover the sound-insulation panels with plasterboard or chipboard, we recommend our soni COMPOSITE as an alternative sound-insulation material. In contrast to soni 491 STL, soni COMPOSITE scores with a stylish decorative felt surface that is available in different colors and excellent for visible sound-conditioning materials.

Noise absorbers for sound studios | rehearsal rooms

Especially in sound studios, music rehearsal rooms and recording facilities, where it is all about melodious notes and beautiful sounds, sound insulation plays a very important role. Noises from outside must not disturb the studio recordings, and the rich sound from the studio must not bother residents.

For the best possible result, we recommend a "room-in-room solution", i.e. the room is equipped with an additional sound-insulating wall lined with a particularly effective noise-absorbing material. This measure reduces the sound transmission to the outside and ensures an interference-free, ideal recording atmosphere within the studio. For this purpose, we recommend the use of soni COMPOSITE, a broadband absorber, which has both sound-insulating and sound-deadening properties – for an excellent overall result.

But also less complex solutions, such as covering ceiling and walls with the classic napped-surface foam soni WAVE, provide noticeable improvements and ensure ideal recording and rehearsal conditions. We would be happy to advise you on this, free of charge.

Testimonials

Sound insulation of a private rehearsal room

About sound-proofing a private recording studio one client wrote:

To complete the equipment of my small private recording studio, I covered part of the ceiling with sound-absorbing soni PROTECT 500x500x50 mm (remark from soniflex: at the time these were available as a special offer) acoustic panels, creating a decorative pattern of rows of 4 panels each. In the corners I added soni TRAPEZ acoustic elements.

soni PROTECT and soni TRAPEZ are made from acoustically effective foam material that absorbs mainly sound waves in the middle to upper frequency range, for instance guitar sound. The recording studio is adjacent to the house of my parents. Thanks to the sound insulation measure I can now play my guitar without causing nuisance to the neighbors. The sound-absorbing effect of Basotect ® acoustic foam substantially reduces the reverberation level in my recording studio.

Sound insulation of a band rehearsal room

Following the successful sound conditioning of their rehearsal room, a youth brass band wrote us the following letter:

The room acoustics in our rehearsal room were a real problem. When rehearsing with the entire band, we have about 30 wind instruments and 4 drum sets in the room. The sound volume was sometimes unbearably high because the sound was fully reflected by the hard surface of the ceiling. Reverberation was extreme.

When looking for a solution to our noise problem on the Internet, we found the company soniflex and their sound protection products. We repeatedly talked on the phone with the soniflex sales team, who provided us with detailed information and useful advice. The product they suggested - soni PROTECT F acoustic foam – proved to be just the right sound protection solution to our problem.

In early September 2011 we covered the ceiling and part of the walls with the sound-deadening panels. Already while working on the project we noticed that the acoustics in the rehearsal room were progressively improving. And at the first rehearsal all band members were surprised and thrilled by the now excellent acoustic properties of the room. Besides an extreme reduction of the sound reflection on the ceiling, we achieved a very comfortable sound volume so that we can now clearly distinguish the sound of every single instrument. The voice of the conductor, too, can now easily be heard right back to the last row of musicians (drummers). As an additional sound-proofing measure, we put carpeting underneath the drum set to adapt its loudness to the overall soundscape.

We are also very pleased with the quality of the sound protection product used. Fixing the sound protection panels on the wall with soniflex special adhesive was very easy and effective. We are completely satisfied with the sound adsorption effect of the soni PROTECT F sound-deadening panels and will gladly recommend them.

Note: Strictly speaking, the above-described application is not a matter of sound insulation but of sound attenuation/deadening.

Sound conditioning of recording studios and music rehearsal rooms: Optimized acoustics for perfect sound

In a recording studio or music room, it's not just the music that plays a decisive role for rehearsals and in the quality of the recordings, but above all the acoustic conditions in the room. Without targeted soundproofing, problems such as disruptive reflections, reverberation within the room and/or noise pollution in adjacent areas will often occur. This is why well designed and efficiently implemented acoustic measures are key to a perfect sound experience and a pleasant environment for music-related work or leisure.

Why is sound conditioning so important?

  1. Prevention of sound transmission: In a music rehearsal room or recording studio, instruments and vocals generate high volume sound. Without adequate sound insulation, the sound waves can penetrate easily through walls, floors and ceilings and become an annoyance for neighbors or for coworkers in adjacent areas of the building. Effective sound insulation prevents this noise transmission and ensures that the sound remains in the room.

  2. Optimization of room acoustics: Uncontrolled sound reflections and echoes will impair the sound quality during recordings or rehearsals. Sound-absorbing materials such as soni WAVE napped foam or soni PYRAMIDE pyramid-profiled foam help reduce reverberation, creating the perfect environment for a clearer and more precise sound experience.

Sound conditioning measures

  1. Soundproofing of walls and ceilings:
    • Walls and ceilings should be clad with special sound-absorbing materials such as soni 491 STL acoustic panels. soni 491 STL consists of a PUR foam combined with a heavy layer. These two components absorb sound waves, preventing their reflection and also their transmission through the wall. Double drywall constructions, possible with the addition of insulating material such as soni 491 STL or soni COMPOSITE between the wall layers, can also significantly reduce sound transmission.

  2. Room-in-room constructions:
    • So-called "room-in-room" constructions are used in professional recording studios in particular. The rehearsal room or recording studio is constructed as a completely independent room within the building to prevent any sound transmission to the outside. In such a construction, you can use soni 491 STL or soni COMPOSITE to insulate the walls.

  3. Acoustic elements for sound optimization:
    • To improve the sound experience within the room, acoustic absorbers such as our soni WAVE or soni PYRAMIDE profile foams should be installed in strategically important zones on the ceiling and/or walls. These sound absorbers minimize reflections and attenuate the sound waves. You can create attractive color accents with our acoustic elements soni COLOR, soni CIRCLE, soni HEXAGON or soni COLOR RD.

Advantages of good soundproofing of recording studios or music rehearsal rooms

  • Higher sound quality:
The reduction of reflections and reverberation creates a clear, precise sound experience that allows recordings and rehearsals on a professional level.

  • Less noise pollution:
Good sound insulation ensures that the music stays in the room and will not disturb the people in the surroundings. This is particularly important for musicians who rehearse or work in apartment buildings or in densely built-up neighborhoods.

  • Professional working environment:
An acoustically optimized environment creates the ideal conditions for concentrated work, creative processes and high-quality music productions.

In a nutshell:

Efficient sound conditioning is key to creating a professional recording studio or music rehearsal room. It not only ensures a clear and precise sound experience, but also protects the neighbors from noise. Whether for private rehearsals or professional recordings - investing in good sound insulation pays off right away and for the long term. Please contact us at any time for more information.
